Myself and my journey, an interview with Unknown Agency
Who am I and what do I do?
My name is Nana Kwesi Akwaboah-Opoku — a Ghanaian, London-based photographer and director. I move fluidly across music, sports, fashion, events, and celebrity lifestyle, always chasing the energy that makes a moment unforgettable. Whether it’s the roar of a packed venue or the quiet intimacy behind the scenes, my work is about one thing: telling stories through the lens.
My journey so far
I’ve always had a creative spark. Back in high school, while most people expected me to take the sciences route, I knew deep down I wanted to be a visual artist. As a kid, I would spend hours drawing comic books inspired by The Boondocks.
At university, I studied graphic design, and that’s where photography pulled me in. I couldn’t afford my own camera, so I assisted friends and borrowed gear whenever I could. After graduating, I worked as a Brand Creative for MSI-G, where some of my design work won awards, including recognition at the SABRE Awards.
Mentorship shaped me too. @Bra Carl Photography taught me how to truly see through a lens — lessons I carry with me every time I pick up a camera.
In 2022, I moved to London to further my studies in Design & Branding. The city became a spark — its music, sports, and lifestyle scenes unlocked a new dimension of creativity. Picking up a camera again during that time changed everything. Today, I’m taking it step by step, aiming to inspire the next generation and reach heights beyond the creatives I admire, like Joshua Kissi, Flex God Daps, and Gabriel Moses.

Milestones so far
Some of my favourite moments behind the camera include being in the studio with Wizkid and Seyi Vibes — completely surreal experiences that showed me the kind of doors a camera can open. I’ve photographed major events like Meta Festival 2023, Timberland’s 50th anniversary, London Lions season 24/25, BTS for Arsenal x Chivas x Willy’s Pies, City Splash, and Wireless Festival 24. Along the way, I’ve had the chance to work with incredible talent including NSG, Shallipopi, Rema, Seyi Vibes, and Kudus Mohammed, and contribute to Tolu Coker’s London Fashion Week exhibition. On the directing side, one of my proudest milestones is my debut with Jay Bahd’s Hate featuring Sarkodie, which has now hit over 788k streams. I also directed Bella Alubo’s Bad Company, which has surpassed 2 million YouTube views. There’s still a lot I want to achieve — like leading a major brand campaign — but I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited for what’s next.
My storytelling formats
Photography and film are my natural homes. For me, photography is about capturing motion within a moment — freezing energy in time. Film, on the other hand, allows me to see ideas come alive on screen. Watching something I imagined unfold successfully? Absolutely breathtaking. Both mediums give me the chance to express emotion, energy, and stories in ways that feel real and timeless.
